Well after Nissan determined it was the fuel pump losing pressure under high load and the quote they gave me I decided to replace it myself with a pump from Autozone. Total cost $225.00 and 2 hours time. I know there is not a whole lot out there explaining with pictures on how to do this. Many have got the route of cutting the carpet and in a pinch...it can get you back on the road quickly. I chose not to cut the carpet or to drop the tank but to remove the seats (driver side passenger seat and rear seats) and roll back the carpet to the fuel pump access panel door.
Tools needed:
14mm sockets and ratchet and extensions
14mm wrenches
assorted screw drivers
chisel or punch
Hammer
large flat bladed tool for putting carpet back under trim
rags
breaker bar
You need 14mm sockets and wrenches and maybe a breaker bar as some of those bolts for the seats and seatbelts are tight. As well as a chisel or punch to removed the lock ring on the pump and assorted screw drivers for clips and tabs. Also a large flat bladed tool to push the carpet back under the trim parts.
The looking ring is a bit of a pain but with some wd-40 it helps. once you disconnect the 3 connections (2 - lines and 1 electrical connection) and remove the ring it comes out and replace the seal with the new seal (mine came in the kit). Reverse the procedure and give the key a few twist before starting to prime the pump.
Took me about 2 hours start to finish...that included vacuuming out all the junk from my kids! LOL
Here are some pics.
