Hey all - So, I've got a 2008 Armada with right at 100k miles on the clock. Never had any mechanical issues at all and kept it maintained perfectly.. But on Sunday I went out and turned the "key" (switch, or what have you) and in the ACC mode all the electronics came on, but when I actually turned the starter, nothing happened. It all happened so quick, and I had a car full of people in the car, I didn't really pay any attention to it. Second turn it fired right up. Then about an hour later with just me in the car, it did it again. Turned the key(ish thing) half a turn, all electronics come on, turn the key to start it and nothing. I did it twice with the same result. On the third turn the Armada started as normal. Since then I've started it perfectly fine 6-8 times. I've payed close attention each time, praying it started usually and it has. Then this morning, I get in it and turned the key and it turned over - but then almost felt like something slipped a bit at the time where it usually fires. I'm so repetitious that I instinctively let off at the split second it typically starts (like most of yall I'd imagine). It felt like it sort of "slipped" (?) around then. I let off and turned the key again and it fired right up instantly.
I'm honestly a little nervous about this one. I've looked online and haven't found much about the starters on these things, and what I have seen I haven't liked. I guess starter issues must be rare and when they do happen, they're not cheap to replace. Does this sound like the starter, or possibly something in the ignition maybe? I was thinking it was something ignition-wise at first, as this isn't the usual warning signs I've had on previous vehicles when the starter starts to die. Possibly battery maybe? But all the electronics seem to be perfectly fine, so I'm excluding the battery from my list, although I'd rather it be that (??) than the starter.
I guess any advice you guys can have. Not really sure what it is, how to fix it or how much. I bought this thing after having a string of Jeeps that gave me all sorts of issues, so I was really hoping I'd have problem-free driving well into my 150-160k+ mileage, so am not happy about the prospects of having a $1000 repair right at the 100k mile mark.
Hmm - any advice? Something I can maybe check? I've looked into the IPDM stuff, but that recall is only on the earlier models, so can't see that being an issue on an '08, but maybe?
thanks
