At 50K had Nissan perform a front brake job. They didn't replace the brake guide pins that allow the calipers to work against each other and stay in alignment. So- at 100K I went to change the pads because the rotors are not worn. Found that both bottom pins were rusted in and that the pads had worn from 3/8 inch on the top to 1/16th inch thick on the bottom. The rear brakes are original and are still 5/16 inch thick. So- when you maintain your car, always change or tell the mechanic to change the bearing pins/sleeves/cups/rubber bellows every 25000 miles/ Use some sort of high temp anti seize compound on the pins and sleeves to maintain freedom of equal movement for both halves of the calipers. Had to use a tie rod fork to remove the old ones, then used a 40 cal brush in a drill to clean the mounting holes out, blew with air and added anti seize. Funny thing is my gas mileage went up after redoing the front brakes. Now I just need to see how to adjust the rear proportioning valve to allow more braking force on the rear brakes.
