Hard wired power inverter

So far, the only thing I miss from the Buick Enclave I traded on my Armada is a 110V outlet. I used it to power my Roku for my boys. So I'm looking at getting a power inverter, but I don't want to have an unattractive plug cluttering up my (wife's) new ride. I'd like to run it into the console by the DVD player. I've heard mention of wiring it to a 12V plug. Can you gurus tell me if that's a good idea, and to which plug, and most importantly, how I'd go about doing that?
