I recently did a drain and refill on my transmission at 77k miles. My oil drain pan must have developed a crack since the last time I used it and it leaked fluid all over the floor, leaving me unable to track exactly how much fluid was drained. I flushed the cooler in hopes of getting out as much fluid as possible and then filled the tranny with 8 quarts of ATF and checked the level with the dipstick. Whether the motor is cold or hot, running or not, the dipstick shows the level extremely high (above the two dips on the stick). Some of the old fluid may have remained in the system, but I fail to believe it was over 3.25 quarts that would put it over the spec'd 11.25 quarts. Is the tranny dipstick worthless, or is there something I'm missing?
