try to make this short. I have driven the rig fully loaded in:
high heat 110*(+) temp + high speed flat grounds long distance = no heating engine issue or tranny issue. no gear change (D)
steep incline + long distance + winter time = no heating on tranny issue or engine heat. No gear change (D)
this past week: full loaded (see pics)
driving up past the Grapevine (at night) no gear change, no heating issue.
Left for Sequoia National Forest in the morning. high temp around 90*, steep incline, as i got to 2000 Ft, i see the tranny temp going up, shift to 4th, as I climbed i had to shift to 3rd cuz the tranny temp was raising in 4th. I drove in 3rd until i reach the top i think it was 6000 ft. No issue after that.
I started in 4th when I started to climbed the mtn in Yosemite. Until i saw the temp going up. I down shift to 3rd and it was fine from there. Tranny temp was back to normal.
Going home. a some what lighter vehicle (less food and water). going up the grapevine (outside temp was like 95-100) with the AC on my engine was started to heat up 3/4 of the way. I had to turn off the AC, and down shift to 4th. the temp for both came back down. I have gone over the grapevine in high temp but the rig is not loaded with stuff without any issue at all.
Question is:
1) is this normal? I mean i have driven in steep or hot condition many times but i dont recall doing both at the same time.
2) What gear are you guys using to go up those steep mtn with a TT? Mine was fully loaded but no TT.
I think I need a PML pan and new radiator if this keeps up. this was with 3 adult and 2 kids and 5 bikes
